hurdles

blog-2006-08-06
I'd like to describe the development situation of the RapidWeaver BBS plug-in because I had not updated my weblog for a long time.
I spent time as much as possible for the development of the RapidWeaver BBS. However there are a lot of hurdles in the development of the plug-in for me.
1) Language
I seem that there are not a lot of documents concerning development of the Mac OS X. (Xcode, Cocoa-framework, Objective-C, Interface Builder, etc...) Also documents written in Japanese is especially fewer. Technically-useful information are almost described in English inevitably.
It's not a good situation for me - who is pure Japanese. (So I'm writing English based weblog for improving my English skill...)

2) Technical intuition
I've been using the Microsoft Visual C++ since version 1.0. More before I'd been using Microsoft C Compiler under MS-DOS generation. (I would venture to say I'm "guru of MFC")
On another front, I'm switcher (4 years ago). Moreover, I'm using iMacG5 only at home for hobby. So I don't have enough experience for the Xcode. This means the "technical intuition" to analyze plug-in architecture is insufficient.
(However,I came to be able to make an easy plug-in at long last)

3) Time restriction
I'm managing own company which produce electrical devices and software for FA and LA. Fortunately the company is busy. Of course it's a good situation for me and my company.
However, it's not a good situation for the plug-in development because I can not make the enough time to develop the plug-in.

4) Immediate hurdle
The RapidWeaver BBS plug-in should over-ride the URL which located at side bar menu and breadcrumb trail to special URL. This functionality is similar to the Offsite page style.
I've been trying to find out this method for weeks. However, I cannot jump over the hurdle yet. (Someone who is RW-plugin guru, give the hint to me !)

I continue to try without quitting and I'm researching today...

repair of mighty mouse

18052006
I bought a Mighty Mouse when I bought a iMacG5 ALS on last October.
It's my favorite mouse because the operability of the Scroll Ball and the right button are pretty good for me. (and also I love design itself)
But, the "up-scroll" died suddenly on last week end. I had this kind of problem several times. In that time, I cleaned the Scroll Ball according to the instruction Apple computer published.
In this time, I cleaned the Scroll Ball several times, but nothing improved.
I searched on the web for this kind of problem and I found out that there are many users who share same problem. (include Apple Store's reviews)
I thought it was only the way that I buy new one. That's one point, but that being a case, I decided to repair it myself. I have nothing to lose. Finally ... The repair was not so difficult for me in terms of results. Also the Scroll Ball is working very fine again !
How about your Mighty Mouse's health?

I described a instruction of the surgery for the Mighty Mouse on my album page.
You may refer if you are interested in it. However, please remember that do it at your own risk. Also I cannot support it, and you cannot get repair service from Apple computer after you repair it yourself.

parallels pb2

10042006
Parallels Public beta2 has been released. The some problems (Networking problems , CD image problems and Improvement of speed and stability) seem to be solved in this version.

The Parallels does not require reboot process when it starts up windows so the Parallels is better than Boot Camp. Moreover, it uses the Virtualization Technology of the Intel VT-x so the speed seems to be also fast like native.
From the above-mentioned, I guess the Leopard must include the Virtualization Technology based Boot Camp function like a Classic Environment.

BTW my iMac is "PowerPC G5 inside" so I was left out in the cold. (T_T)

mac do windows,too

0005
Apple computer released Boot champ public beta at April 5, 2006.
I had no chance to buy Mac for my job because I use only Windows in my office work up to now. But I'm glad to get a chance to buy Mac, after this function. The only worry is point that the software vender who is developing Mac OS X and Windows version might make only Windows version.

On the other hand, Parallels Workstation 2.1 for Mac OS X public beta has been released. I cannot overlook this one.
The Parallels Workstation 2.1 uses Intel VT-x. The reason for "Virtualization" is that it is a technology that should be paid attention.
